Quinoa in the world is a product that has quickly become popular in recent years, with more and more people consuming it regularly. In the Andean countries and the rest of the world, the cultivation of quinoa has opened new perspectives for the development of the territories, representing an important source of income for small and medium farmers. However, the sustainable development of its cultivation must be designed, according to the dynamics of its wide biodiversity and its territorial needs, integrating the participation of farmers, researchers, companies and the public sector.

The VII World Congress of Quinoa and Other Andean Grains, Chile 2019, was presented as an international platform to effectively promote the technical-scientific advancement of the biodiversity of quinoa and other grains in the region, under a perspective that considered the cultural identity of communities and their production in harmony with the environment. In this way, the mission of this meeting was to facilitate the dissemination of new global technical and scientific advances to strengthen the integration of the various agents linked to their cultivation, and promote associated businesses.

This issue of the Revista Ciencia e Investigación Agraria (RCIA) considers the scientific works of fourteen authors from four continents, which make available the latest advances in Genetic Resources; Production Systems, Technology and Innovation; Commercialization; Territorial Development and Cultural Identity, with the objective of revealing in modern society the historical role of quinoa and its potential to feed humanity.
