ABSTRACT In the petroleum refining process, the metallic structure facilities deterioration by corrosion is caused by the presence of sulphidric acid with naphtenic gas, the more serious damage caused by hydrogen. A form of protection against this type of corrosion is the use of aluminum coating. This coating represents passive and active protection. In addition, the presence of intermetallic region of Fe/Al in the zone of union between aluminum and the steel, obtained by additional heat treatment, represents another protective barrier against hydrogen diffusion in the steel. In industrial scale intermetallic regions are CREATED BY alonization processes, in tubes that require a heat treatment of 1050 oC, to allow the aluminium diffusion in the tube material. In order to make the alonized steel preparation, test tubes were prepared and observations with optical and electronic microscopes were made. The alonized surface studied showed greater hardness and it was observed that the aluminum diffusion was significant, allowing the formation of several types of intermetallic Fe/Al, as well as a region of solid solution of aluminum and iron. Keywords: Alonized steel, Fe/Al intermetallic, naphtenic corrosion. REFERENCIAS [1] I. Dos Santos; "Corrosão por ácidos naftênicos em unidades de destilação atmosférica e a vácuo".
