FAVERO, Bettina. The Fishermen’s Festival in the Port of Mar del Plata, Argentina. Between Traditions and Reinvented Identities. RIVAR (Santiago) [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.24, pp.185-198. ISSN 0719-4994.  http://dx.doi.org/10.35588/rivar.v8i24.5190.

The Fishermen’s Festival in the city of Mar del Plata (Argentina) weas originated towards the end of the 1920s, when Father Dutto, together with a group of fishermen, organized this festival without distinction of nationality. It was characterized by exhibiting a homogenizing tint that sought fellowship among immigrants as well as smoothing out some type of regional differences. In the present analysis, this festival is considered as a space in which the traditions and customs carried by the immigrants were reinvented and in which a mixture of both new and recreated traditions was generated.

Palabras clave : festivity; port; convention and tradition; inmigration; Argentine.
