Resumen

CONTRERAS, Daniel De Jesús  y  MEDINA, F. Xavier. The Wine Festivals in Mexico: Food and Wine Tourism and Territorial Development. RIVAR (Santiago) [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.24, pp.126-144. ISSN 0719-4994.  http://dx.doi.org/10.35588/rivar.v8i24.4901.

The celebrations around agricultural, livestock and fishing products have gone from being mere cultural expressions to positioning themselves in important tourist attractions. These constitute valuable tools for the valorization of local products and for the territorial economic revitalization. In this paper we analyze the wine festivals developed in the Mexican wine regions as promoters of food and wine tourism and territorial development strategies. Through a review of secondary sources that is complemented with experience of ethnographic and netnographic work, we seek to show how celebrations around the culture of wine actively contribute to the promotion of wine regions and stand as important tools of territorial development through the tourist valorization of wine and gastronomic resources. This article makes a first approach to wine festivals as tourist products and highlights their importance in the consolidation of food and wine tourism for rural areas of Mexico.
