In the novel Murder in the Field of Outside (1991), Óscar Bustamante problematizes the processes of identity configuration that operate in the rurality of the central zone of Chile during the 20th century, to the eaves of the modernizing process. Structure, plot, and characters of the work -his speeches-, stand as a space for such a discussion. Through them, different elements arise that allow to problematize the mechanisms of identity configuration of the social subjects represented, an essential issue in the underlying narrative proposal.
