The activation of contacts in the Dominican/Haitian border region has created a new island geography, marked by cross-border corridors along which circulated hundreds of millions of dollars in goods and services (legal, illegal, formal and informal), people and information. They are hierarchically ordered and in some parts of the strip are being transformed, either by the hand of the economy or politics, in transborder regions. This article makes a discussion of two of these experiences -Dajabón/Ouanaminthe at north and Elías Piña/Plateau Central in the center- starting from a preliminary theoretical discussion about the meaning of these regions in contemporary capitalism.
