Resumen

GOMEZ-RUBIO, Constanza et al. Retirement in Chile: Experiences and perceptions of retired women by the private pensions system. Psicoperspectivas [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.3, pp.112-122. ISSN 0718-6924.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5027/psicoperspectivas-Vol15-Issue3-fulltext-825.

The world progressive ageing, along with other factors, have led to pension systems, its reforms and gender inequalities to international discussion. In this context, the Chilean debate inserted around the Pension Fund Administrators. The aim of this article is to learn about the experiences and perceptions of retired women by the private pension system in Chile, AFP, regarding the amounts of their current pension. For this, 16 retired women were interviewed, using Qualitative Content Analysis for data processing. The results show three categories: perception of fraud and repentance in the transfer to the AFP; gender discrimination in the workplace that impact on retirement; and impoverishment and suffering in daily life. We conclude that the subjective experiences of women are marked by suffering, helplessness and pessimism, making it difficult to aspire to a society with gender equality, if the pension system is configured as discriminatory and little solidary.
