ALDAZABAL, Verónica; SILVEIRA, Mario; CUSTO, Graciela  and  ORTIZ, Martha. Colors on the North Shore of Lago Traful, Neuquén, Argentina. Bol. Mus. Chil. Arte Precolomb. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.2, pp.95-105. ISSN 0718-6894.

The aim of this study is the geochemical characterization of paint found on the surface of ceramic fragments and rock art and raw colorants recovered in archaeological contexts from sites located on the northern shore of Lake Traful, in Neuquén Province, Argentina; and to test the usefulness of the WDFRX techniquefor characterization when sample scarcity calls for a non destructive analytical technique. WDXRF analysis enabled a preliminary elemental characterization of the paintings studied and provided information for a discussion of techniques and the selection and availability of raw materials.

Keywords : pigments; WDXRF; hunter-gatherers; Northern Patagonia; pottery; rock art.
