Resumen

BENFELD, Johann. Rawls and the Idea of the Duty of Assistance as a Principle of Global Justice. Revista de Derecho de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso [online]. 2013, n.40, pp.713-744. ISSN 0718-6851.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-68512013000100022.

This work analyses the idea of "duty of assistance" in the context of "justice as fairness", as contained in The Law of People by John Rawls. Regarding this idea, the reasons for Rawls to discard the application of a principle of global distributive and redistributive justice in the international scope are developed. Then, two alternative proposals to Rawls’ are briefly set out, but which are consistent with his theory: the theories of Charles Beitz and Thomas Pogge. Finally, this work enquires into the sufficiency of the idea of the duty of assistance as a principle of global justice.
