MOLINAR MONSIVAIS, Judith  e  CERVANTES-HERRERA, Ana del Refugio. Comparison of the knowledge and attitudes of Primary School teachers towards students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and ADHD in Argentina and Mexico. Rev. estud. exp. educ. [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.40, pp.171-181. ISSN 0718-5162.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21703/rexe.20201940molinar9.

ADHD is a neurobiological disorder with a persistent pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that affects the infant emotionally, socially, and academically, preventing him/her from adequately performing daily and school activities. The abilities and attitudes of teachers to detect and properly manage children with ADHD are important to achieve the expected learning within the classroom. The objective of this study is to analyze and compare the knowledge and attitudes of basic education teachers towards students with ADHD in Argentina and Mexico. To this end, the ASKAT instrument was applied to a sample of 48 teachers (24 Argentineans and 24 Mexicans) who demonstrate a level of knowledge that ranges from sufficient to low. For the evaluation of attitudes and beliefs, results show that only 50% and 60% of teachers have unfavorable beliefs and attitudes towards students with ADHD. When comparing both populations in knowledge, beliefs and attitudes no significant differences were found. The results suggest that the teacher needs to know more about the implications of the disorder (emotional, behavioral and learning) and to obtain resources, tools and strategies to achieve good student management in the classroom.
