This article investigates the pedagogical competences of 151 teachers from Technical-Professional High Schools (TPHS) in the municipality of Santiago - Chile. The research is undertaken from a mixed methodological approach, by means of a multi-level concurrent nested design. By means of a questionnaire that nested an open question, we determined the level of perceptions on the mastery of pedagogical skills of the sample, together with investigating teacher discourses and their link with students. The results allowed us to validate a model to determine the professional didactic competences for (TPHS), showing that the teachers do not exceed 13% of knowledge about pedagogical competences. On the other hand, teaching discourses would make students' learning potential invisible by perpetuating, linguistically, traces of social inequality.
