Abstract

BACHLER SILVA, Rodolfo; MEZA FERNANDEZ, Sandra; MENDOZA, Laura  and  POBLETE CHRISTIE, Octavio Gabriel. Evaluation of the emotional initial teacher training in Chile. Rev. estud. exp. educ. [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.39, pp.75-106. ISSN 0718-5162.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21703/rexe.20201939bachler5.

The emotional dimension of teaching and learning is one of the most relevant aspects of improving initial teacher training. This study assessed the characteristics of emotional education in the initial teacher training in a sample of four basic education courses in universities that belong to the Council of State Universities of Chile. The following levels of assessment were considered: "Central level", corresponding to student perceptions of the training received; "Intermediate level", based on the implicit conceptions of teacher trainers regarding the role of emotions in educational processes; "External level", corresponding to the analysis of the main documents of the degree courses. The evaluation process considered a series of predefined dimensions and criteria of analysis based on previous studies related to the subject. The following profiles were identified, organized from the simplest to the most complex according to the way in which emotions are considered during training: "The absence of an initial teacher emotional training approach"; "Emotions as a context of the teaching and learning processes" and "Emotions as a center of Initial Teacher Emotional Training. The specific characteristics of each profile are described in the study. As a general conclusion, the study emphasizes the relevance of the levels of analysis and dimensions considered in the evaluation, but also makes some recommendations for improvement through future studies.
