Using primary and secondary sources, the present investigation tries to characterize the Unidad Popular squatter settlement, with the purpose of systematize the available information about it and question the belief that only in squatter settlements associated to the revolutionary left embryonic forms of people’s power were developed, before and during the Unidad Popular government, as well as recognize the contribution of traditional left, especially the Communist Party, to the development of the squatter’s movement.
