The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between demographic, socioeconomic and academic factors of the students when entering the university with the final result, defined as graduation, dropout or graduation delay. A sample of 1002 students of the 2009-2010 cohorts at a private university in Medellín (Colombia), was considered. Demographic, socioeconomic and academic variables were included and the student's academic trajectory in terms of: frequency, type, length, and stop out period, were considered. The results indicate that the probability of stopout for the first and second time was 0.47 and 0.32 respectively. The probability of returning after the first and second incident of stop out were 0.27 and 0.20 respectively. Of all the students in the sample, 53,3% graduated, 34,5% had dropout and 12,2% had graduation delay. The temporary stopout it is 13,5%, 8,4% and 43,4% between graduates, dropouts and graduation delay students, respectively. The temporary stopout is present both in graduates and dropouts like graduation delay students.
