CASANOVA CRUZ, Daniel; MIRANDA DIAZ, Camilo  e  YANEZ CORVALAN, Ana María. Early warning system: Centinela, an experience for student retention at the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción. Calidad en la educación [online]. 2021, n.55, pp.156-174. ISSN 0718-4565.  http://dx.doi.org/10.31619/caledu.n55.1056.

The aim of this work is to describe the design and development process of the early warning system (SAT, for Sistema de Alerta Temprana) of the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción, named Centinela. The work presented here explains the context in which the SATs were born within educational institutions, followed by a detailed description of the theoretical basics of the Centinela SAT, and the speculative and practical management of academic risk. In addition, a description of the multilevel concept used in designing Centinela, its creation process, and the management of information is included. Lastly, this work provides an analysis and future projections which may be valuable to educational institution overseers interested in SATs. This system is innovative with respect to other SATs, as it proposes a multilevel monitoring, analysis, and follow-up model, which goes beyond the individual situation of students, and it is based on a relational logic of learning. It is founded on a relational logic and learning dynamic, which enhances the institution’s innovation and the students’ potential, proposing in turn an overcoming of the mere remedial logic.
