In the first half of the XIX century, cemeteries were created on cities’ outskirts and a mutual understanding was achieved between civil and ecclesiastical authorities regarding their legal regulation. The 1883 Secularist Law of Cemeteries broke this consensus. However, civil and canon law developments during the twentieth century made possible a new convergence.
