TAPIA ITURRIETA, Luis  e  COOPER CORTES, Tomás. EVALUATION OF THE KIWIFRUITS COMPETITIVENESS FROM NEW ZEALAND AND CHILE IN THE USA MARKET BETWEEN YEARS 1994-2004. Idesia [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.3, pp.27-31. ISSN 0718-3429.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-34292006000300004.

The exports of kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis Planch.) from the south hemisphere to the USA markets are dominated by exports originated from New Zealand and Chile, both countries take advantage for the off season production. This paper analyses the average evolution of the exports, price and yields in both countries for the period 1994-2004, settling that initial breach of income by Chilean sale of kiwifruit has tended to narrow in favor of New Zealand kiwifruit. The relation of price is dominated by New Zealand and the yield that country registers is a double of Chilean kiwifruit according to the FAO information. Considering this situation the competitiveness of Chilean kiwifruit in the USA market is difficult to maintain and the breach of the income by sale continued extending itself in favor of New Zealand.
