The objetive of this work was to evaluate the influence of the body mass on reproductive characteristics and longevity of females of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). The experiment was lead in the entomology laboratory of the Centro de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (CCA-UFES), in Alegre, state of Espirito Santo, Brazil at 25 ± 3ºC, 70 ± 15% of relative humidity and 14 hours of photophase. The treatments were constituted by females of this predator with body mass varying from 61 to 70 mg (T1), 51 to 60 mg (T2) and from 40 to 50 mg (T3). The experimental delineation was entirely randomized with 10 replications. The period of preoviposition, interval between ovipositions, number of ovipositions per female and the longevity was similar for all treatments. The egg number per ovipositions and the number of nymphs per day was higher for the females of the T1. The viability of eggs and the number of eggs and nymphs per female in the T1 had been superior in relation to those of the T3, but similar to the ones of the T2. Although females of P. nigrispinus between 51 and 60 mg to represent a good option for mass rearing, it is recommennded to use preferentially females of this predator with body mass varying from 61 to 70 mg.
