Abstract

ERNESTO, Piana; TESSONE, Augusto  and  ZANGRANDO, Francisco. MORTUARY CONTEXTS IN THE BEAGLE CHANNEL REGION FROM THE OCASSIONAL FINDING TO THE SYSTEMATIC SURVEY. Magallania [online]. 2006, vol.34, n.1, pp.103-117. ISSN 0718-2244.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-22442006000100007.

This paper presents the results of surveys and excavations of human mortuary contexts made in the north coast of the Beagle Channel (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina). Methodological procedures are delineated and analysed according to both natural and cultural processes that have affected the formation of the mortuary record. Finally, we elaborate a series of initial observations on activities related to death and patterns in human remains depositions in the Fuegian archipelago.

Keywords : human remains; mortuary behaviours; fuegian archipelago.
