Resumen

VELASQUEZ, Elda; MARTINEZ, M. Loreto  y  CUMSILLE, Patricio. Self-efficacy Beliefs and Prosocial Attitude as Correlates of Social Involvement in Youth. Psykhe [online]. 2004, vol.13, n.2, pp.85-98. ISSN 0718-2228.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-22282004000200007.

This study examined gender differences in levels and type of social involvement, as well as the associations between social involvement, self-efficacy and prosocial attitudes in Chilean adolescents. The sample consisted of 1900 adolescents drawn from private and municipal schools in metropolitan Santiago. Significant gender differences in levels of social participation were found with females reporting more involvement than males. In addition, females reported higher levels of prosocial involvement than males. Regression analyses yielded a significant positive association between social participation and self-efficacy beliefs. Similarly, social involvement was positively associated with prosocial attitude. Findings are discussed in light of their implications for youth social policy and gender equality.
