MARINKOVICH, Juana  y  FERRARI, Silvana. Argumentative discourse mode in dissemination biogenetic texts in Chilean written press. Rev. signos [online]. 2006, vol.39, n.62, pp.427-451. ISSN 0718-0934.

The discourse of scientific dissemination is framed by the communicative situation in which it is inserted, and this would give it some autonomy from the original text; i.e., it would not be a mere translation from or a reformulation of the original text; rather, it would be a re-contextualization. Thus, science discourse in mass media, specifically in the written press, is constructed according to some specific discursive organization and linguistic procedures. In this study, the way arguments are constructed in scientific questions is determined; in other words, how the problem is presented, who takes which position, what the systems of knowledge or beliefs invoked are, and what the value of the expressed arguments is. The results of this analysis help conclude that the news commented, the editorials, the interviews, and the news articles of five Chilean morning newspapers refer to the effects clonation, genetic manipulation, and genetically modified organisms have on human beings. In general, scientists, writers, businesspeople, consumers, or journalists take different positions, based on their scientific and experiential knowledge or belief systems according to either opinions or divine revelation. In addition, the value of the arguments is mainly pragmatic and ethical.

Palabras clave : Press scientific divulgation; argumentative organization mode; problematization; positioning; prove.
