DE VEGA, Manuel. Language, embodiment, and brain: Critical review. Rev. signos [online]. 2005, vol.38, n.58, pp.157-176. ISSN 0718-0934.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-09342005000200002.

The symbolic approach to meaning is critically analysed. Instead, I defend that language involves the activation of embodied representations, as suggested by experimental results in the fields of cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Finally, I propose some challenges for the embodiment theories: the compositionality of meaning, abstraction, and mental language.

Palavras-chave : Embodied meaning; symbolism; action verbs; abstract words; compositionality.
