In the light of the context of his initial production, José Ricardo Morales´s work, Burlilla de don Berrendo, doña Caracolines y su amante y El embustero en su enredo, is carefully analyzed. This serves as a marker for the continuity and variation of dramatic writing in Spain, and later on in Chile. Hispanic traditional roots recovered and the metadramatic gesture combine with the experience of life in exile, his linguistic alienation from the language and reality.
