The purpose of the study was to perform a systematic review, using the Scielo database, of empirical studies on lexical availability. To do this, two objectives were defined: 1) characterize the research developed in the field of studies of lexical availability, 2) describe the contributions to the field of education of studies of lexical availability. As an eligibility criterion, the articles that reported findings were considered using quantitative and/or qualitative analysis and/or a new available lexical analysis method or methodology and/or semantic analysis of the lexicon available using graphs. As a result of the analysis, bibliometric information and characterization are presented based on the parameters of the analysis. It is concluded that the lexicon studies available in the Scielo database are in the initial development phase, revealing opportunities for the growth of this research area and its intersection with the field of education
