Abstract

PAEZ, Manuel S; PEREZ, Dairo E  and  PEREZ, Omar A. Volumetric properties of binary mixtures of the ionic liquid [Bmim][CF3SO3] with ethanol, with 1-propanol and with water at different temperatures. Inf. tecnol. [online]. 2015, vol.26, n.4, pp.105-114. ISSN 0718-0764.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-07642015000400014.

Densities for binary mixtures of ionic liquid (LI) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate with ethanol, 1-propanol and water in the whole concentration range, at temperatures between 283K and 308 K were determined using vibrating tube densimeter Anton Paar DMA 5000 model. The excess molar volume was determined at different concentration of the IL, finding positive and negative values. Apparent molar volumes and apparent limiting molar volumes were also determined. After applying the criterion of Hepler, the IL in ethanol and water were found to have solvophobic solvation (lacking affnity for the water solvent) while in 1-propanol was found to have solvophilic solvation (having affinity for the water solvent).

Keywords : binary mixtures; ionic liquid; apparent molar volume; excess molar volume.
