Abstract

The technical feasibility of replacing home vapour compression split chillers in an air/air configuration with single effect absorption devices having water/lithium bromide in an air/air mode, has been analyzed. For this, in-house software previously used in the design of compression plants was modified for the design of absorption devices. Designs for both types of machines  were obtained from the modified software, and applied under  equivalent load conditions. The results showed that the absorption machine was larger in size, and that the heat exchangers required a design having a low thermal gap. It was concluded that the project was technically feasible and thus capable of adapting a technology originally reserved for large installations to the domestic sector
