Adolescence is a stage of psychosocial development that is influenced by economic-political, social and cultural contexts, which affect the formation of social identities, and also consumption and indebtedness practices. Of interest for marketing and economic, social and developmental psychology, this article describes the differences in consumption and indebtedness practices of urban and rural adolescents in schools from Region de La Araucanía, Chile. Through a qualitative descriptive research design of multiple cases, adolescents from both communes have been interviewed, finding differences in the consumption and indebtedness practices as well as in the emotional aspects involved in cases of successful and frustrated purchase.
