This paper focuses on the introduction of reinforced concrete, in three significant public buildings in Santiago de Chile, as a contribution to the history of the introduction of this material in Chile. The text analyzes the role played by reinforced concrete as an artificial material, as well as its links to the scientific and technical development of the building industry. The analysis considers material and productive conditions, technical and institutional actors and economic and social conditions.
