Resumen
RODRIGUEZ, JOSÉ MANUEL. ONE FLEW OVER THE BIRD NEST (AN STUDY OF EL OBSCENO PÁJARO DE LA NOCHE EARLY MANUSCRIPTS). Atenea (Concepc.) [online]. 2008, n.497, pp.151-166. ISSN 0718-0462. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-04622008000100009.
The writing process of El obsceno pájaro de la noche was undertaken by José Donoso during more than ten years. In this time the author had to struggle heavily to give the novel its final shape. The most difficult problem he faced in the process was to unify two independent narratives that constitute the matrix of Bird, as he called his novel. One of them is Humberto Peñalozas story, started in Tres metros de cuerda. The other was El último Azcoitía. Both texts can be found among the José Donoso archives at the Iowa University Main Library. The following essay shows the vicissitudes of this struggle and, also, offers insight into the complex relation between narration and language. According to the contemporary theory, this relation is proposed here as a trip the narrator makes towards language. Once he gets there, he starts searching for and articulating the text. The curious reader is invited to examine the following text to see if we can support these statements in our study of Birds early drafts.
