Householdfood security in Capurgana and Sapzurro and the association with the collection and the consumption ofthe snail Cittarium pica is described. A cross sectional-study was carried out in a representative sample ofl26 households obtained using a probabilistic sampling. Afood security perception scale was applied to determine its severity, and other characteristics were collected through a survey. Statistical analysis was done using the chi-square test, the U mann whitney test, odds ratio along with its confldence intervals and the correspondence múltiple analysis. More than half(54¿}%) of households were infood insecurity. Foodinsecurity was signiflcantly associated with low income (p=0,0003), direct collection ofthe snail (p=0,0178), education level ofthe head ofthe household (p=0,0014) and the money spent onfood (p=0,0000). The current use ofthe snail does not contribute to the householdfood security.
