FALABELLA, Fernanda; SANHUEZA, Lorena y FONSECA, Eugenia. THE RAW MATERIAL OF ACONCAGUA SALMON POTTERY AND ITS IMPLICATION ON THE ORGANIZATION OF POTTERY PRODUCTION . Chungará (Arica) [online]. 2002, vol.34, n.2, pp.167-189. ISSN 0717-7356. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-73562002000200003.
This paper gives the results of a research project in which we analized the pastes of Aconcagua Salmon ware, Late Intermediate period in Central Chile (ca. 900-1400 A.D.), its composition, and the distribution of the raw materials used in its manufacture. We analized archaeological sherds from eight sites in the Maipo river basin, collected clay samples and prepared experimental test tiles to compare the color and paste of the natural clays with those of the archaeological materials. The main results are that the clays and temper used in the manufacture of pots were obtained near the sites, suggesting a local system of ceramic production
