Abstract
NARANJO SAAVEDRA, Gisella and ABURTO MATHEO, Daniela. NICANOR PARRA'S KING LEAR FROM A TRANSLATOLOGY POINT OF VIEW: THE NATURALIZATION. Acta lit. [online]. 2022, n.65, pp.99-112. ISSN 0717-6848. http://dx.doi.org/10.29393/al65-15rlgd20015.
In order to analyze King Lear written by William Shakespeare and translated by Nicanor Parra from a Translatology point of view, an applied study was conducted. We will focus on the translation procedure known as naturalization. Our aim is to contrast the linguistic and cultural elements between the Source and Target Text (ST-TT). To achieve the objective, we will apply a comparative analysis that focuses on the use of colloquial language elements from the native language spoken by Parra. Evidence referring that Parra's knowledge about his own culture causes him to use the Naturalization on his translation has been found in the analysis. Parra's work stays true to the original play in terms of the effect that causes in the audience, but in his own particular way. So, King Lear will always be Shakespeare's and Rey Lear & Mendigo will always be Parra's.
