Abstract
DELGADO ABURTO, Leonel. THE INDIGENIST AMERICANISM IN ERNESTO CARDENAL: UTOPIC PACIFISM AND DECADENT ARCHEOLOGY. Acta lit. [online]. 2020, n.60, pp.141-159. ISSN 0717-6848. http://dx.doi.org/10.29393/al60-7aild10007.
Abstract: Through the analysis of poems with North-American and Meso-American themes, this article states that Cardenal's Americanism, as is expressed in The Golden Ufos (1992), intends a counter-history that collects the memory of the defeated. Concerning the North-American Indigenous culture, Cardenal emphasizes the pacifism of Indian and the importance of a cultural hero. In addition, he reveals a desire of geographical fusion of Nicaragua and the US, and of actualization of elements of indigenous material culture. Regarding the Meso-American culture, Cardenal works with the idea of cultural decadence due to the victory of militarism among Mayas. Furthermore, he ties this militarism to historical actual dictatorships in Central America. The article remarks, also, the importance of the US-American culture in Cardenal's indigenism.
