Abstract: This paper takes Manuel Puig Boquitas pintadas (1969) as its starting point. The traits of its reception (a fashionable novel) and the features of its fictional construction (a novel about fashion) are taken into account. Among the first, a text by Stéphane Mallarmé, translated by César Aira, as well some critical articles about the novel are analyzed. For the latter, some episodes of the novel are studied. Both elements enable an inquiry about the temporality of fashion, and propitiate a new insight into an essential chapter of 1969 Argentinian literature.
