SUMMARY: The posterior tibial artery and its branches are the principal vessel in the foot irrigation. The surgery at level of the flexor retinaculum is relative frequent. One hundred feet from adult cadavers, of both sexes, were dissected in the Morphology Department of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo-Escola Paulista de Medicina, Brazil and the Anatomy Discipline of the Universidad de La Frontera, Chile. The tibial posterior vessels were dissected at the flexor retinaculm level with the aid of a magnifying glass. The posterior tibial artery divides distal to the malleolus medialis apex in 100% of the cases. The mean populational distance between the point of division of the artery and the medial malleolus apex was found between 14.3 mm y 22.4 mm with 95% confidence limits. No significant difference was observed between both sides. The mean populational distance between the division of the artery and the superior margin of the abductor hallucis muscle was found between 2.1 mm y 3.7 mm. No significant difference between both sides.
