The Place Without Limits, novel published in 1996 by the Chilean writer José Donoso, has come to be the object of countless readings, mostly allegoric. To gay literary critics, a realistic reading has become possible, which seriously reveals the main character Manuela's condition of being a transvestite. Following this line, the work turns to the idea of abjection to interpret the way in which the character vindicates positively the marginal place which has been assigned to him. In this sense, it is opposed to other readings, in terms of the idea of transgression.
