BAAR Z., Alejandro et al. Short stature and persistent ileitis in Crohn's disease. Rev. chil. pediatr. [online]. 2000, vol.71, n.2, pp.128-135. ISSN 0370-4106.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory process of unknown aetiology which can affect any part of the digestive tract. In contrast to the adult patient the diagnosis of Crohn's in children is often made late, due to low incidence of clinical suspicion and the various clinical presentations. We report the case of a 15 year old who presented with short stature and a palpable abdominal mass. The subsequent radiological and endoscopic examinations results compatible with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease. Treatment was started with mesalamine and prednisone, the latter being gradually replaced by azathioprine, owing to the side effects of prednisone. The patient significantly improved in well being although his abdominal mass persisted

Palabras clave : Crohn's disease; short stature; abdominal mass.
