Munchausen’s-by-proxy syndrome: a diagnosis to consider This paper demonstrates a case of Munchausen’s- by-proxy syndrome which presented a difficult challenge to the medical team in a Santiago hospital. The article reflects the difficulties which these cases generate and which constitute a type of very elaborate and perverse physical abuse. We define and describe this pathology and analise in detail the above case. The great difficulty was to maintain the diagnosis of Munchausen’s-by-proxy syndrome as an alternative, although it was considered at the moment of presentation. The ethical and legal conflicts which this situation produces exposes a small child to the possibility of being unprotected and defenceless against possible life threatening risks.
