ZANDONADE, Patricia and MORETTI, Ricardo. O padrão de mobilidade de São Paulo e o pressuposto de desigualdade. EURE (Santiago) [online]. 2012, vol.38, n.113, pp.77-97. ISSN 0250-7161. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0250-71612012000100004.
The inequality pattern ofurbanization is a crucialfactor determiningproblems of daily mobility in metropolitan areas. Sao Paulo is a representative case study since the problems ofmobility long since are deeply affecting the low income population. More recently the problem is gainingscale andpressure for impro ved transport conditions aregrowing. In this context, discussing measures to improve public transport systems is necessary but not sufficient. The dream ofcar ownership and use is widespread, but this modal shift has no conditions to enable daily mobility. The expansion ofrail transportation system is slow and in this context there is no possibility of substantive change in the short term. The current chaotic mobility model is structured by the social inequality, resulting nowadays in a growing urban environmental inequality. Mobility improvementfor everyone requires deconstruction ofthe inequality pattern.
