This article explores the fruitfulness of Michel de Certeau’s thinking in the current context of Christianity and the Catholic Church in Chile. After analyzing his unique approach to understanding theology—emphasizing culture and everyday languages—, the ecclesiological relevance of The Mystic Fable is discussed as an exploration of the crisis of thought. These observations naturally lead us to mourn the vestiges of Christianity, acknowledge institutional decay, and recommit ourselves to a new way of functioning as Christians in society: relinquishing the attempt at hegemony and embracing a Christian lifestyle of hospitality.
