INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Scope and policy
Estudios Internacionales: revista del Instituto de Estudios Internacionales de la Universidad de Chile, appears three times a year, at the end of April, August and December.
The journal is a multidisciplinary academic publication in the field of international relations, applying mainly a political, juridical, economic and historic approach. Contents cover problems in various regions in the world and pays particular attention to subjects connected with Latin America, combining contributions by well known authors with papers prepared by young professionals who are starting their academic careers.
Opinions expressed in the journal are the authors’ exclusive responsibility and do not involve any institutions. Published articles, which should deal with current issues of academic value in the field of the social sciences, with special reference to international relations, shall be original and unpublished and shall be subject to blind evaluation by peers.
Estudios Internacionales reserves the right to edit published material.
Papers by Chilean or foreign authors shall adjust to the Guidelines for the submission of originals offered below.

All articles submitted for publication in Estudios Internacionales are subject to a blind revision by peers.
The Editor shall send each text to two specialists that have no connection with the editing institution, who will prepare a report thereon. Reports shall include, among others, an evaluation of the material aspects of the article (form, adjustment to guidelines for submission of originals, drafting, etc.) as well as comments on the merits regarding relevance of text to journal’s purposes, originality, inclusion of hypothesis and conclusions, etc.
Evaluator´s report may lead to approval of text
as submitted, a request of minor or major changes or a recommendation
not to publish. In such case, the Editor reserves the right to accept
or reject the evaluator’s decision.
Form and preparation of manuscripts
Submission of articles
Submission of a paper for publication in Estudios Internacionales implies that its contents are original and have not been elsewhere submitted for publication. The Editorial Committee is not liable for damages or loss of submitted material.
Articles should not exceed 10 thousand words and should include an abstract in English and Spanish as well as five keywords in both languages.
The first page should include title (in capital letters) and name of author/authors, indicating, in a footnote, current position, institution, and email address. The title shall be followed by the full text of the article, with the relevant footnotes, if any. Bibliographical References shall be included at the end of the text in alphabetical order by author.
Abstracts and keywords
Each article should include an abstract in Spanish and English, to be inserted before the text and 120 words long as a maximum. It shall be followed by 5 keywords, also in Spanish and English.
Authors and affiliation
The author/authors should send a brief c.v.., indicating the current position as well as the institution to which he/they are affiliated. This information, together with e.mail address and dates of submission and acceptance of article shall be included as a footnote in the first page.
Bibliographical References shall be listed at the end of the article, in alphabetical order by author or title, as appropriate. System used is that of APA.

Footnotes at the bottom of the page should be indicated in consecutive numerical order, in superindex, and only for explanatory notes. They should not include bibliographical reference; this reference, should be cited at the end of the paper.
Verbatim quotations in the body of the article shall be included as follows:
To indicate the reference to which the quotation belongs or to draw attention in the text regarding a reference, author’s family name in brackets shall be inserted, followed by a comma, year of publication of the book and after a colon the page or pages of the quotation (optional). For example: (Schneider, 1993:38). Full title of the reference shall be included at the end of the text, as indicated in the paragraph of Bibliographical References in these Guidelines.
Any word or words in a language different from that of the article shall be written in italics. Boldface is to be avoided.
Abbreviations and acronyms should if possible be avoided and shall never be used in titles or synopsis (for example, United States and United Nations should always replace USA or UN). In the case of acronyms, the first time they are used they should appear in brackets, preceded by the full name they refer to, and shall be written without separating points.
Limited use should be made of figures, tables and graphs. They should otherwise be presented clearly and in detail and be appropriately inserted in the text. They should ideally be submitted in Microsoft Excel format.
Sending of manuscripts
Material should be e-mailed in two formats: one in PDF without author’s name, the other in Word format, properly identified. The author should send separately a brief c.v. clearly indicating his/her current position, email@example.com.
