Basic information is a scientific journal with a regional focus on Ibero-America, peer-reviewed since 2007, that publishes research on communication and media, preferably from comparative perspectives. It seeks to provide empirical evidence and methodological developments regarding professional practices, audiences, institutions, technologies and the effects of communication in social, political, economic and cultural aspects. is devoted to the Ibero-American research community, and covers topics such as journalism, public relations, institutional communication, multimedia, audiovisual communication, and advertising. is published on schedule two times a year (on June and December) by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. It is an electronic, open-access journal ( and has a print edition, which is distributed free of charge. It publishes original research manuscripts in Spanish, English and Portuguese, with a preference for articles funded through competitive public and private grants.

Authors who publish in this journal agree to the following terms:
