EDITORIAL

Dear colleagues:

In recent months the national and international community of chemists have been touched by the sad death of Professors Albert Cotton (Texas University, USA) and Jaime Retuert (Universidad de Chile, Chile). Professor Cotton, was very well known for his contributions in the area of Inorganic Chemistry, he passed away on the last 20th of February.

Professor Retuert was known through his contribution in Materials and Inorganic chemistry, as well. He also died on the last February, the 3rd. The Journal of the Chilean Chemical Society has been asked to devote a special issue to his memory as an acknowledgment of his trajectory.

There are also been good news in this time. Professor Ligia Gargallo has been awarded the LORAL-UNESCO prize, in recognition to the achievements of a woman and his important contribution to the development of Chemistry in our country.

In the present issue of our Journal we are starting to publish invited reviews from selected leading foreing researchers. In the first review we introduce Dr. Gabino Carriedo, Full Professor at the Oviedo University, Spain. His review article deals with his more recent and important results in the poly-bis-spirophosphacenes.
