This article aims to elaborate on an aspect that has gone relatively unnoticed in the document published in December 2008 by the International Theological Commission on the natural law entitled Towards a universal ethic: a new perspective on natural law, that is the problem of the redemptive claims of political power. In this sense, the author shows how the doctrine of natural law provides the best framework for understanding the above problem and the solution found in the tradition of Western thought.
