PRADENA, M; MERY, J.P e NOVOA, E. Unpaved roads stabilization and maintenance under ice-snow conditions in mountain areas . Revista de la Construcción [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp. 97-107. ISSN 0718-915X. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-915X2010000200010.
Traffic and climatic conditions are well known variables that define the road cycle of life. Many unpaved roads, and more often those used in haulage areas, should be kept open all year seasons as much as possible, because of their economical impact. Permanent traffic in addition to snow and ice condition tends to heavily increase the base course damage. Thus, some stabilization procedures are taken into account by the Chilean road maintenance policies both private and public. These interventions are aimed to reduce the potential damage as well as they act as deicing countermeasures. This article focuses on a synthesis and discussion about most frequent stabilization and maintenance agents used in unpaved roads, either in Chile and other countries.
