This paper presents a hypothesis about the formation of modern art in Colombia. Taking into account the concepts of ‹event› and ‹artworld›, it proposes to account for the formation of modern art as an effect of sense in the interrelationships between the level of the socio-historical transformations and the level of the uniqueness of a remarkable artistic production in the art history of the country.
