RAMIREZ PAVELIC, Mónica y CONTRERAS SALINAS, Sylvia. Reflections on Hegemonic Masculinity in Children of a Rural School in Chile. Psicoperspectivas [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.1, pp. 158-179. ISSN 0718-6924. doi:10.5027/psicoperspectivas-Vol11-Issue1-fulltext-163.
This article is based on research conducted with children from rural areas, living in a school/internship belonging to a rural community in the Ninth Region of Araucania-Chile. We used a qualitative methodology with discussion groups. We worked with six children aged between 8 and 13. In this article we review the concepts of gender and masculinity constructed by them, their beliefs related to being male and being female, as they relate to girls/women and the positions assumed in the discourse.Among the findings we highlight the primacy of a negative code concerning the constitution of masculinity, framed whiting in the particular circumstances of rural areas and boarding systems.
Palabras clave : Masculinities.
