Resumen

SANHUEZA TOHA, Cecilia. TERRITORIES, RITUAL PRACTICES AND SPATIAL DEMARCATION IN 1 óth CENTURY TARAPACÁ. Bol. Mus. Chil. Arte Precolomb. [online]. 2008, vol.13, n.2, pp. 57-75. ISSN 0718-6894.  doi: 10.4067/S0718-68942008000200004.

Following a discussion on early Andean space, resource and territorial organizational practices we propose the political and territorial logics that might have operated in Tarapacá (Región of Tarapacá, Chile) during the Tawantinsuyu and the early Colonialperiod. Despite abundant evidence ofruptures caused by the political-administrative divisions imposed by Viceroy Francisco de Toledo, we were able to identify certain continuities or readaptations ofthe territorial logics andsymbolicpractices ofspatial organization.

Palabras clave : Andean territorialities; symbolic spatial organization; Colonial demarcations.
