This article analyzes the varying content of the constitutional right to social security in Chilean constitutionalism based on the existing literature, historical materials, and, to a lesser extent, judicial decisions, offering thus a view both retrospective and prospective about the Chilean constitutional development thereof. It maintains that an expansion of the normative content of this constitutional right may eventually take place, after factoring in new developments in the literature and the courts; therefore, this constitutional right is better conceived today as a continent that searches for content.
