This research analyzed aspects related to mentoring, by means of an empirical study. An instrument that allows collecting information related to the opinion of students of common core courses of engineering sciences, about the tutoring process. Tutoring is a tool that helps to increase the learning potential in the process of teaching and learning. This process helps students in making better decisions and achieving their goals, with the support of a teacher, who guides them on other forms of learning, consulting, psychological and educational guidance, administrative procedures, scholarships, and social service, among other aspects. The results showed that 80% of students considered mentoring as part of their journey at the University and prevailing issues of academic performance in this process. The results showed that 80% of students considered to mentoring as part of their university formation process. It is concluded that to create a climate of trust between the tutor and their students it is essential that the tutor has certain attributes such as kind treatment, support, time availability, and knowledge of administrative and academic procedures.
